Black History Month

Black History Month began in honor to all the many neglected black people that worked towards building not just the United States of America, but also many other nations around the globe! In a special way, we would like to appreciate these 5 Black Women in Hollywood who inspire us on a daily basis!

Black Women In Hollywood

1. Laverne Cox

Not only is Laverne Cox beautiful and confident but, she is also transgendered! She gained her popularity on the show “Orange is the New Black” and became the first openly transgender person to be featured on the cover of Time Magazine!

Not only does she maintain her looks very well but also has a secret to her amazing glowing skin! Laverne says that she uses baby shampoo for face wash! She has apparently learned this little trick from someone else that who she met years ago!

Apart from spending her time on screen and maintaining her amazing self, she also makes it a point to advocate for the many millions in the LGBT community!

2. Kerry Washington

Prior to her role in the TV series ‘Scandal’, Kerry Washington gained fame due to her roles in the movies ‘Fantastic Four 2005 and 2007’, ‘The Last King of Scotland’ and ‘Django Unchained.’ But, the part that makes us so proud of her that we feel the need to appreciate her in Black History Month is that she is the first African-American female lead in a network TV drama in almost 40 years!

Apart from her role on screen, Kerry has learned to keep herself fit with a regular Pilates routine and outdoor hiking!  She also drinks a lot of juices and swears by Kim Synder’s smoothies!

She is an activist for gay rights, human rights and a member of V-Day, a movement against violence against women and girls.

3. Octavia Spencer

Octavia Spencer may not look like your average Hollywood actress and it is for this very same reason that we have decided to appreciate her in Black History Month! With the pressure of the media and fans around the world, most Hollywood actresses fall prey to what is famously known as fat-shaming. But, nobody dares mess with Octavia Spencer (She might feed you that pie like she did in the movie ‘The Help’)

Although she is most comfortable in her own skin and despises the word fat or anything that surrounds the word, she is highly proactive when it comes to being healthy. She views and type of body-shaming as something serious and nothing to be joked about!

Hats off to her for being able to speak up for all the other millions of big women all over the world. As Mika put it so perfectly “Big Girls You Are Beautiful!”

4. Lupita Nyong’o

This ‘12 Years a Slave’ actress has not only won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress but also, People Magazine’s “Most Beautiful Woman” of 2014 and Glamour’s “Woman of the Year”. She has also won our hearts, minds, and souls! She is also the first Kenyan and the first Mexican to win an Academy Award!

Although Lupita struggled with issues due to her dark skin toned, she soon learned to love herself just the way she is. What more reason do we need that this to celebrate her in Black History Month!?

Lupita is so comfortable in her skin now. She has shown us all that she can wear colors that you would never expect a dark-skinned woman to wear! From her ultra pink lipstick to her electric blue lipstick – Lupita has done it all!

5. Beyoncé

This list would not be complete without Sasha Fierce, who is pregnant with twins!! Beyonce deserves a special stance not just for the five Grammy awards she has won but for the stance she takes in the movement ‘Black Lives Matter’.

Her latest album Formation has been the cause of a lot of chaos. With people rioting against her and those rooting for her. She has also publicly endorsed same-sex marriages and has condemned police brutality against black Americans! This lady deserves to be on this list honoring black women in Black History Month for slaying everything that she does!
